Plant a Seed Campaign Dear Friends, The holiday season is upon us and our thoughts turn to those we love who need our support. At the Peg Taylor Center, we carry on Peg’s tradition of providing safe and secure care all through the year. This is possible in large part because of the helping hands of all those who give so generously to our annual “Plant a Seed” Campaign. Your help is critical for people like Lydia. Now over 70, Lydia lost her parents during World War II, was brought up by her grandparents, and went on to raise four sons on her own. Having fought all her life to be independent, when Lydia developed serious complications from diabetes and cardiac problems, she was determined not to go to a nursing home. Lydia also knew she couldn’t cope with her health needs alone. Desperate for a solution, Lydia’s son contacted the Peg Taylor Center. Lydia and her son discussed her needs with the social worker and nurses at the Center and decided she would live nearby and attend the Peg Taylor Center, where our nurses could monitor her health and care needs. Now, three days a week Lydia heads straight for the nursing room when she first arrives at the Center. Our nurses monitor her blood sugar and help her get ready for the day. They talk over problems Lydia is having with her health and quickly address them before further problems arise. The caregiver who prepares Lydia’s meals at home also meets with the nurses to go over menu-planning and discuss any changes needed in her care. After her trip to the nursing office, Lydia is ready for a day of visiting with her many friends at the Center. She trades stories about her more than 20 grandchildren and great-grandchildren and participates in a variety of activities that keep her involved and engaged, including painting and seated exercises. After lunch, Lydia checks in with the nurses again and receives her medications. If she were to develop side effects, the nurses would quickly alert her physician. Most importantly, Lydia has the security of knowing she can live independently, yet has regular nursing support. At the end of her day at the Peg Taylor Center, Lydia heads off to a healthy dinner and a restful evening in her own home. Lydia’s sons are thankful that their mom can live on her own and very relieved that our nursing staff can help with her complicated medical concerns. Like Lydia, the men and women we serve, who have worked hard all their lives and now have serious health problems, couldn’t survive in the community without us. Please give them the security of good health care by contributing generously to our Plant a Seed Fund. Together we can guarantee that help is available when families most need it. Your tax deductible Plant a Seed contribution can be made as a gift on behalf of those you love. All of your contribution will go directly to the care of our clients. Let us know who you would like to honor and we will acknowledge your gift with a special holiday letter to that individual, wishing them a wonderful 2006! With all our best wishes to you and your loved ones for a joyous holiday season, Diane Cooper-Puckett Susie Sorenson P.S. We know this time of year is very busy! Thank you for making time to help the valued older and younger members of our community who are served by the Peg Taylor Center. |
